Alpacas have been native for thousands of years, especially in the Andean regions of Peru and Bolivia, and are closely connected to the culture and textile history of South America.
Their special fibre quality is closely connected to their long breeding history: alpacas are considered domesticated descendants of South American camelids, whose development is often described in connection with guanacos and vicuñas.
