Useful things to know about baby alpaca knitwear
What is the difference between alpaca wool and baby alpaca wool?
Baby alpaca wool refers to especially fine, soft alpaca fibres. The term does not only describe wool from young animals, but above all a particularly fine fibre quality. Compared with regular alpaca wool, baby alpaca wool often feels even smoother, lighter and gentler on the skin. This makes it especially well suited to high-quality knitwear such as Alpaca Sweaters, Alpaca Cardigans and troyers that warm comfortably and drape softly.
Why is baby alpaca wool softer than regular alpaca wool?
Baby alpaca wool is especially soft because its individual fibres are finer than many other alpaca qualities. The finer a natural fibre is, the smoother it feels on the skin. At the same time, baby alpaca wool remains pleasantly light, warm and shape-retaining. This combination makes baby alpaca knitwear ideal for favourite pieces that are worn often and should stay beautiful for a long time.
Where is our alpaca knitwear produced?
Our alpaca knitwear is made in Peru, a country with a long tradition of working with alpaca fibres. We work with experienced workshops that know this special material and process it with a great deal of craftsmanship. You can learn more about our origin, production and approach on our page About us as well as in the article Where does our alpaca fashion come from?.
How should our cardigans and sweaters be cared for and washed?
Baby alpaca knitwear does not need to be washed after every wear. Often, airing sweaters or cardigans carefully is enough to let the natural fibre recover. If cleaning is needed, we recommend gentle hand washing or a suitable wool programme with mild wool detergent. Afterwards, the garment should be dried flat so it keeps its shape. You can find more detailed guidance in our guide to caring for alpaca fashion.
Why does alpaca wool feel warmer than other wools?
Alpaca wool has a special fibre structure that stores warmth very well while remaining pleasantly light. The fibres can trap insulating air and help retain body warmth without making the material feel heavy. This makes baby alpaca knitwear especially comfortable for cool days: soft, warm and light at the same time. You can find matching pieces in our collection Baby Alpaca Cardigans & Sweaters as well as among our Alpaca Scarves.
