Guide: How to care for and wash alpaca fashion properly?

Products made from alpaca wool are of high quality. It goes without saying that you want the fashion items to last as long as possible. The first good news right away: Alpaca fashion is largely self-cleaning and requires comparatively little attention in terms of care. If you do want to wash the alpaca fashion or care for it properly, you should consider a few things:

It is better to air out than to wash.
It is better to hang your alpaca wool sweater or alpaca scarf outside in the fresh air instead of washing them. As with conventional wool products, the fibers can be damaged by hot washing or detergent. The soft wool becomes scratchy because the individual fibers are pulled together tightly. So: it is better to hang it on a hanger and leave it outside for a day.

Just do it yourself.
If washing is unavoidable, you should only clean your alpaca clothing by hand. It is important to use cold temperatures below 30 degrees and only use wool detergent. You should never use fabric softener! To dry, it is better to lay the item of clothing out and not hang it on a hanger when it is wet. Simply place it carefully over a clothes rack. It probably goes without saying: you should stay away from the dryer.

What should you do if odors arise?
Everyone knows it: After a nice evening by the campfire, you can throw any item of clothing straight into the washing machine. But that's not advisable with alpaca wool. How can you still gently remove odors that the clothing has taken on? Airing it out is a great way to do this. The alpaca fiber is hollow and is therefore able to clean itself. The fibers do not absorb dirt or odors directly - they quickly find their way out of the material. So if you air your fashion items regularly and thoroughly, they will stay fresh and bring joy for a long time.

Crumpled garments made of alpaca wool.
You can easily straighten wrinkled sweaters, scarves, etc. with a steam iron. Use the lowest temperature setting. You can often find this under the setting for silk. Please DO NOT touch the garment with the steam iron - it is sufficient if the steam is emitted onto the product from a distance of a few centimeters.

Storing alpaca fashion correctly.
Caring for your alpaca clothing also includes storing it properly. Knitted items should cannot be stored like other items of clothing. Your products will last longer if you add a little lavender or cedar wood to the clothing. This protects against moth infestation, as they are almost magically attracted to pure natural wool.
