Useful things to know about alpaca sweaters

Why are alpaca sweaters by Manuela Bedford so long-lasting?

Our alpaca sweaters are timeless companions built around high-quality natural materials, careful construction and classic silhouettes. Fine alpaca fibre is naturally robust, shape-retaining and pleasantly light. With good care, alpaca sweaters can be worn for many years, making them ideal for a considered wardrobe that values quality over short-lived trends.

Where does the wool for our sweaters come from?

The alpaca wool for our sweaters comes from Peru, a country with a centuries-old tradition of raising alpacas and working with their special fibres. In the Andes, alpaca is deeply connected to textile culture and has been valued for generations for its fine, warm and light wool.

Where are our sweaters produced?

Our alpaca sweaters are made in family-run workshops in Peru. Production is based on long-standing cooperation and grown partnerships. Craft experience, high-quality workmanship and respectful relationships with the people who make each piece are at the centre.

How should our sweaters be cared for and washed?

Alpaca does not need to be washed after every wear. Often, airing the sweater carefully is enough to let the natural fibre recover. If cleaning is needed, we recommend gentle hand washing or a suitable wool programme with mild wool detergent. The sweater should be dried flat so it keeps its shape.

Why does alpaca wool feel warmer than other wools?

Alpaca wool has a special fibre structure that stores warmth very well while remaining pleasantly light. The fibres can trap insulating air and help retain body warmth without making the material feel heavy or stiff. This makes alpaca sweaters especially suited to cool days when warmth, comfort and freedom of movement matter equally.
